Polymer-functionalized nanoparticles as agents for the in situ remediation of oil-contaminated soils

چکیده

Abstract In-situ flushing of chemicals, such as nanoparticle (NP) suspensions, and NP-based Pickering emulsions, is a well-promising method for the remediation soils aquifers contaminated with non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) enhanced oil recovery from reservoir rocks. Linear comb-type copolymers were synthesized by combining (i) hydrophilic, anionic monomers like 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid (AMPSA) acrylic (AA) (ii) hydrophobic dodecyl methacrylate (DMA). Moreover, polymer-coated nanoparticles (PNPs) was prepared post-grafting surface initiated free radical polymerization (FRP) on commercial silica nanoparticles. Dilute dispersions polymers PNPs mixed salts (NaCl, CaCl 2 ), their dynamic oil/water interfacial tensions measured pendant drop method, wettability all fluid systems to glass quantified measuring contact angle. Oil-in-water emulsions dispersing n-dodecane in n-decane PNP-colloid ultrasound probe, stability evaluated tracking separation changes rheological properties, functions time. Furthermore, most stable PNP-based chosen tested chemicals removal residual transparent glass-etched pore network.

Electrokinetic remediation of oil-contaminated soils.

This investigation was undertaken to determine the factors influencing electrokinetic remediation of soils from petroleum pollutants. The remediation method was applied in two versions: (i) static and (ii) flowing, when a sample was washed with leaching solution. It was found that all the soils studied can be purified using this technique. It was also observed that the mineral and grain-size co...

In Situ Remediation of Arsenic in Contaminated Soils

Owing to its toxic nature and relative abundance, arsenic is a common contaminant of concern in environmental cleanup. Arsenic is identified as a constituent of concern at 728 National Priorities List (NPL) sites as of fiscal year 1998, and arsenic in soil is specifically identified at 32 percent of these sites (Fiedler, 2001). Exposure to arsenic has been linked to a variety of cancers, cardio...

Enhanced electrokinetic remediation of cadmium contaminated soils by chelating agents

Electrokinetic soil remediation by electroosmosis and ionic migration is restricted to soluble substances. At a higher pH, the soil particles sorb more heavy metals than at a lower pH and the precipitation reactions of heavy metals are promoted. Both mechanisms make heavy metals immobile, rendering cleanup more difficult and electrokinetic extraction inefficient. In this study, the effectivenes...
